How to plant it: spruce seeds need a cold spell before they'll sprout. The easy way: plant the used tip outside in fall and let winter do the work; the seeds wake up in spring. The faster way: pull the seeds out of the tip, wrap them in a damp paper towel in a bag in the fridge for 4 to 6 weeks, then press them a quarter inch into soil and keep them in the sun. Like any seed, germination isn't guaranteed and results depend on soil, water, light, and season. Blue spruce is a slow grower, so be patient!
